The Gods

Supreme deities and lesser gods of Dheghom, their manifestations, sanctums, and associated cultures.

Supreme Deities

Most cultures recognize a primary deity for their particular pantheon. However, a given pantheon is not necessarily interrelated, nor do the deities within a pantheon necessarily separate their provinces or domains as one might expect. As a result, it is not uncommon for some cultures to have multiple war or life deities in addition to several deities that preside over water, land, or sky. The origins of Dheghom and the plethora of deific beings permits a unique and diverse cast of gods to preside over a region.

Urkhaz I was Urkhaz, the unbroken, the shield that held the line. I was a great pangolin, armored in scales like stone, a creature made for battle. My body strong, my claws sharp, my spirit fierce. The Zwerge fought beside me, their hammers raised high, and I stood with them. We battled, we bled, we fell. They died, and I…I failed them. A wound, deep and searing, tore through my body, and I could feel the life seeping from me. My limbs grew weak, my vision blurred. I saw the Zwerge falling around me, but I did not rise. I had failed them. I failed myself. I turned away from the battle, from the pain, from everything. I chose to die. The Binding But my sister, Khazraya, would not let me rest. Khazraya, the badger with eyes like molten stone, whose strength was only matched by her love for me. She could not bear to see me gone. My death, my silence, it would have been too much for her heart to endure. So, she bound me. Against my will, she forced me to rise. I did not want to return. I wanted to stay where I had fallen, where my shame was my only companion. But Khazraya, desperate, bound me in undeath. I was no longer Urkhaz. I was not whole. My body, a patchwork of broken flesh and crude restorations, was stitched together by the Stone Voices. I could move, but I could not speak. I could only feel the weight of my sorrow. The Burden The Zwerge kneel before me, believing my return to be a sign. They raise their dead in my name, invoking my presence. They offer sacrifices, cut their flesh, and call upon me, thinking I bring them back. But they do not see the truth. It is Khazraya who raises them, not I. Her power sustains the dead, not mine. And I, broken, silent, am but a ghost among them. I wish to speak. I wish to tell them of the emptiness inside me, the endless sorrow that drags at my very soul. But I cannot. I cannot. I watch her, my sister, her power growing, yet I feel her breaking. She, too, is shifting, becoming something not quite herself. The weight of what she has done is wearing her down. She does not see it, but I do. I wish I could stop her. But I am not whole. I am not alive. I am only the echo of what was.
